Newborn Procedures at IMT
We offer specialized newborn procedures to ensure your baby’s well-being. Dr. Fisher performs newborn circumcisions, which involve the careful removal of the foreskin from the tip of the penis. Additionally, Dr. Fisher is experienced in treating newborn tongue-tie, a condition where the tongue’s range of motion is restricted. With utmost care and attention, Dr. Fisher ensures that both procedures are conducted safely and comfortably for your newborn.
Benefits of Circumcision:
- Reduced likelihood of health problems and infections
- Lower risk of penile irritation due to easier cleaning
- Decreased risk of urinary tract infections, common in uncircumcised infants
- Associated with lowered risks of penile cancer and HIV
- Potential to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and cervical cancer in female partners
Conditions and Complications Avoided with Circumcision
Circumcision helps avoid specific conditions related to the foreskin, including:
- Phimosis
- Paraphimosis
- Balanoposthitis
Circumcision Procedure Overview:

- Sterilization and bandaging of the area before returning the child to parents.
Aftercare:
- Parents receive detailed instructions for a safe recovery.
- Warm water should be used for gentle cleansing.
- Normal to observe slight bleeding and redness initially.
- Immediate contact with IMT if symptoms persist or worsen after a week.
Newborn Tongue-Tied Management
Occasionally, a baby is born with a small membrane called the Frenulum which attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth. This membrane can cause difficulty in breastfeeding, and later in life with speech, as well as dental hygiene. Dr. Fisher makes a very small incision to detach the membrane, which frees the tongue to full movement. The procedure takes about 20 minutes to perform, with the infant able to feed immediately after.
